The timing system on the hybrid cams is somewhat different from other systems. Hope this is not plagiarism but this guy knows what he's talking about, tune all my Hoyts this way. So.Question: If I take these off and measure up AND they match these specs (or I take or remove twists to MAKE them match) replace them and tighten the limb bolts right down and i get something close to 80 pound on the draw board the bow MUST be and 80 pounder? From the chart it looks like the string length should be 56.88, control cable 37.75 and the buss 35.50. I'm at work right now (obviously busy!) but will put the bow in my makeshift press this afternoon and remove and check string and cable lengths to see how they match up. Interestingly the axle to axle, which I thought mus be 34 inches (for this Hoyt 34) is actually 33 and 3 eighths which is pretty much spot on. So I have been able to check the tune charts as you have all suggested and i can now see the specs. The bow has "Z5 2TL" cams with RK-2D-TL modules. I'm back from my hunt and actually got my first fallow buck with the bow in question so gotta be happy with that! Question is: "How do I determine if the bow is rated to 70 max or 80 pound max? I can see nowhere on the bow where it seems to be written? Any ideas guys? I know that doing this will have increased poundage. I had actually watched a youtube clip (by seansoutdoors.how to tune a hoyt compound) prior to this which had recommended taking twists OUT to increase the upper cam rotation but I found this retarded the rotation and I needed to ADD twists in order to get the top draw stop to contact at the same time as the lower draw stop. Prior to taking the weight measurement i had notice the draw stops were not contacting the control cable at the same time so I put a few extra twists in the bus cable. Brace height is what it should be at 6.75 inches. Axle to Axle measures in a bit short at 33.5 instead of 34 inches. However it currently pulls my scales down to 77.8 pounds on the draw board when the limbs are maxed out. Make small adjustments while twisting the strings and cables.I recently got one of these from a guy on the forum and he says it's a 60 to 70 pound bow (he got it on ebay himself). Routinely tune your bow throughout the year to maintain accuracy.

Contact a local archery pro shop for any detailed questions. If something goes wrong during any step, start over with step 1. Approximately five twists will adjust the draw length 1/4 inch. If the draw length is too long, add a twist to the string and take a twist out if the draw length is too short.

Draw the bow until at full draw and have someone measure from the nock groove on the string to the pivot point of the grip. If the top cam is over-rotated, take a twist out of the buss cable or twist the control cable.
In this case, you can add a twist to the buss cable or remove a twist to the control cable. If the bottom draw stop is hitting before the top, the top cam is under-rotated.
The cable should hit both draw stops-one on the top cam and one on the bottom cam-at the same time. As you pull the bow to full draw, have someone watch the cams as they roll over right before full draw. To adjust the brace height, place the bow back into the bow press and twist the string.Ĭheck the draw stop timing. On the Maxxis 31 with the Z3 cam, the brace height is 6.5 inches. The brace height is measured from the bow string to the bow grip. Adjust the control cable until the string lines up with the performance marks.Ĭheck the brace height measurement. These marks are two circles with lines through them to indicate where the string needs to be positioned. Tighten the limb bolts with the allen wrench and check the performance marks on the cam.
